The BitBox FCA Petrol Gen1 CAN module is a software tool designed for professional engine control unit (ECU) communication with Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Fiat petrol vehicles. This module facilitates reading and writing via the diagnostic connector (OBD2) or on the bench without requiring the ECU to be opened.
The module supports several critical operations for vehicle tuning and maintenance:
Identification: Retrieves ECU hardware and software information.
FullFlash Reading: Extracts the entire flash memory contents for most supported models.
Calibration Writing: Allows writing of the modified calibration area back to the ECU.
Checksum Correction: Automatically calculates and corrects checksums during the writing process to ensure file integrity.
This module covers the first generation of electronic controllers used by the FCA group:
| ECU Type | FID | Microcontroller (MCU) | Flash Size | Notes |
| Motorola NGC3 | 12 | MPC565 | 1 MB | |
| Motorola NGC4 | 13 | MPC5554 | 2 MB | |
| Motorola NGC4A | 15 | MPC5554 | 2 MB | |
| Continental GPEC (SIM90) | 16 | MPC561 + External Flash | 2 MB | Calibration area only |
| Continental GPEC2 | 14 | MPC5566 | 3 MB | Vehicles until 2014 only* |
Vehicles manufactured after 2014 equipped with GPEC2 ECUs typically feature an RSA LOCK. These newer units cannot be written using this module and must first be unlocked using the FCA Petrol Gen2 CAN module.
Hardware: Use of this module requires the BitSoftware Senselock USB security dongle.
Interface: A compatible J2534 Pass-thru device is required for communication.
Connectivity: An active internet connection is necessary for license verification and server-based operations.
